About Northumberland
Northumberland is a ceremonial county and unitary authority in North East England, bordering Scotland. It is England's most northern and least densely populated county, celebrated for its wild, beautiful landscapes including the Cheviot Hills, Northumberland National Park, and a dramatic coastline (an AONB). Its history is defined by conflict, marked by more castles than any other county, including Alnwick, Bamburgh, and the extensive ruins of the Roman Hadrian's Wall (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The population is around 320,000. Notable landmarks also include the Farne Islands, Kielder Water & Forest Park, and the Dark Sky Park.
